GULF

Gulf
Paul Wong, 2010
mixed media installation (13 x 8’) with black rubber gloves and 53 minute colour video loop, no sound

Gulf is Paul Wong’s response to the BP Gulf of Mexico oil disaster that leaked millions of gallons of oil continuously into the sea for 87 days. The work was inspired by found black rubber gloves.  Wong has recycled several hundred gloves and has attached these directly onto a wall in the shape of the Gulf of Mexico.  On a video monitor mounted is a real time counter displaying the estimated flow of oil being leaked by the second, minute, hour, day. The conservative estimate was 1.5 million gallons per day.

Exhibited at On Main Gallery for SWARM 2011.
