GOLD MOUNTAIN (金山)
Gold Mountain (金山)
Paul Wong, 2014
site specific installation
gold leaf, rock
Dedicated to the Chinese gold miners, railway workers, and sojourners.
A site specific project that took place in an old storage locker facility destined for the wrecking ball. The rock (Gold Mountain), was protruding out of the concrete ground level floor. Documentation of ephemeral art. Created for Thru The Trapdoor exhibition in Vancouver.
Initiated by On Main Gallery, Thru The Trapdoor was an interdisciplinary art exhibition and event that took place from April 22 to 26, 2014. It was produced to mark the end of an era for the building located at 1965 Main Street that had housed Vancouver artists and arts organizations for over 20 years.
Paul Wong was the artistic director and a curator for Thru The Trapdoor. Wong gilded a rock protruding through the ground as a site-specific intervention.
