CAR CRASH

CAR CRASH

Car Crash
Paul Wong, 2010
4:18 min., colour, stereo, single-channel w/ credits

Using the video camera on his iphone Wong records the immediate aftermath of a car accident. Crossing the street, we hear a horn blaring, we see the front of a red car that has crashed into the rear end of a green car, the camera shifts we see into the interior of the red car, the drivers side door is wide open, the airbag is inflated.  The view further shifts, someone is laying on the roadside, a young boy is cowering over the body, the camera shifts back to the red mini, we see the passenger side door open with an inflated airbag. We walk around both vehicles, the green car also has front end damage. We return to the victim on the ground, the young boy is wiping the face, people are kneeling and standing around, the police arrive on the scene. We look into the passenger side of the red mini, the horn continues to blare.  We get a close-up of the two cars smashed together, we hear sirens and see the arrival of ambulances.

CAR CRASH was presented in ZOOOOOM 5.2, part of Paul Wong’s ‘5’, a series of site-specific events and installations commissioned by the City Of Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Public Art Programs.  www.5.paulwongprojects.com
